Under the hood of every model in the 2019 VW Golf GTI lineup – S, SE, Autobahn, and the limited-edition GTI Rabbit Edition – is a power-packed 2.0-liter TSI® turbocharged engine. Golf GTI models come standard with a six-speed manual transmission but offers an available seven-speed DSG® automatic transmission with Tiptronic®. The available DSG® transmission is the most advanced setup the Volkswagen brand offers in their lineup. On top of the added Tiptronic® mode on automatic models, the DSG® transmission also includes a Start/Stop System and launch control feature to help save fuel on the road.
For the 2019 model year, the Golf GTI gains an 8-horsepower increase from previous years, generating 228 horsepower with 258 pound-feet of torque on tap. Manual transmission Golf GTI models earn an EPA-estimated 24 city/32 highway/27 combined mpg, while automatic models earn a slightly different 25 city/31 highway/27 combined mpg.
